18 July 2024 – X-ELIO, global leader in the renewable energy sector, announces the signing of a Voluntary Planning Agreement with Dubbo Regional Council in New South Wales, Australia. The agreement includes the financing of an ambitious housing program in the region. It represents a firm commitment to address the critical housing needs in the Dubbo Region community and its surroundings.
The program, promoted in collaboration with Dubbo Regional Council, aims to encourage the development of community housing for people at risk of social exclusion. The agreement will have a duration of 5 years during which Dubbo Regional Council will receive the agreed funds from the renewable energy company. This action is part of X-ELIO’s Community Plan, which seeks to promote the socio-economic development of the communities in which the company operates. Both parties agree on the importance of developing actions that generate a positive and lasting impact on the community.
One of the key highlights of this agreement is the built-in flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the community. In the event of significant obstacles arising in the implementation of the housing program, X-ELIO commits to allocate the same financial resources to a community benefit fund for Dubbo Region.
The company is currently constructing the ‘Forest Glen’ renewable project in the region. With a capacity of 110 MW, with this utility X-ELIO reaffirms its commitment to developing projects in Australia that contribute to the fight against climate change and the achievement of the country’s net zero energy target by 2050.
Steffi Fernando, Development Manager of X-ELIO in Australia, highlighted: “this social housing program exemplifies X-ELIO’s commitment to the communities in which we operate and of which we feel a part. We would like to thank Dubbo Regional Council for their ongoing commitment to realizing positive benefits from Forest Glen and look forward to being a long-term partner”.
Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson said that the social housing program agreement is a real win for the region and thanks X-ELIO for their commitment to improving the quality of life for residents within their operating areas.
“This agreement is great news for the Dubbo Region. Not only are we harnessing the potential of renewable energy with the Forest Glen project, but we’re also helping to combat the critical housing shortage being seen both within the region and right across Australia.”
“I’d like to thank X-ELIO for recognising the importance of community and look forward to working with them to implement the housing program,” Clr Dickerson said.
An Expressions of Interest (EOI) process will be undertaken later in 2024 to identify a suitable community housing provider to lead construction of the properties. This EOI process will also assess applicants based on their capacity to manage the welfare of tenants post-construction. A total of $1 Million will be made available to the successful applicant/s.
