With the development of the new plant, which will enter into operation throughout 2019, X- Elio will promote the creation of 950 direct and indirect jobs

The company reinforces its commitment to Mexico, a key country for the development of its business strategy and benchmark in the clean energy sector

Madrid, 18th December 2018. X-Elio, the leading global developer of photovoltaic solar energy with presence in five continents, will develop a new photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Mexico’s Chihuahua. The plant, the second one developed by the company in Mexico, will have a power of 80 MW, which will be connected to the national network of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). The company, which is already building the plant, expects it to start operating throughout 2019.

This new project will mean a significant increase in the installed capacity of non-conventional renewable energy in the country, as well as the diversification of its national energy matrix. Likewise, with the clean energy generated, about 1.8 million tons of carbon dioxide will be eliminated over the next 20 years.

This Chihuahua plant joins the one developed by X-Elio in Guanajuato, which is already in operation and has a capacity of 74 MW. X-Elio currently has six photovoltaic power projects in Mexico, which will enter into operation between 2019 and 2020. This country is one of the company’s strategic areas and the group plans to continue with the development of new investments.

The project will be financed by IDB Invest, the private sector institution of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Canadian Climate Fund for the Private Sector of the Americas (C2F), the Chinese Fund for the co-financing of the Americas, the Official Credit Institute (ICO) and the MUFG Bank Ltd.

We continue working to be the main reference in the global market in the promotion of new energies. With this new project, we once again show our great commitment to Mexico and the development of clean energy in the country. Mexico is one of the key points in our development and international expansion strategy and our idea is to continue growing in this market, whose energy goals have made it an attractive region for clean energy“.
