- During its implementation and development, Industry 4.0 technologies will be used for its control and maintenance
- This action is part of the Community Plan Program that the renewable energy company, X-ELIO, is carrying out in the municipality of Villena, where it is currently planning an investment of 100 million euros in the solar photovoltaic plant “CSF La Atalaya”
Alicante, 15th of December 2022. X-ELIO, a world leading company specialized in the development of renewable and sustainable energy projects, and the Secondary School (IES) Antonio Navarro Santafé of Villena have signed a collaboration agreement to develop a “smart” beehive, as well as other research projects devised by the teaching staff of this school and which are of special interest to students.
The “Smart hive” project enables the automation and digitalization of an autonomous and sustainable apiary, powered by solar photovoltaic energy without altering the daily life of the bees. During its implementation and development, Industry 4.0 technologies will be used for its control and maintenance.
Thanks to the “intelligent hive”, the temperature and humidity of the honeycomb can be regulated automatically, both in winter and summer. This also improves the bees’ reproduction, preventing the larvae from dying due to heat stress and, at the same time, making them produce more honey and improving their life quality.
Bees are of crucial importance for crops and for our planet. The preservation of bees and their habitat protects biodiversity and benefits us all. They not only produce honey; they do something essential for the reproduction of the world’s plants: pollination, on which 75% of the world’s food depends.
The agreement was signed by M. Ángeles Corella Castellano, Principal of IES Antonio Navarro Santafé, and José Enrique Pardo, Head of Development of X-ELIO in the Community of Valencia and Region of Murcia. Through this agreement, X-ELIO finances the necessary materials to develop this innovative project, and opens the door to future collaborations.
This initiative is added to others already launched by X-ELIO in Villena as part of its Community Plan, which seeks to promote the pillars of education, community, sport, research, health and the environment.
The renewable energy company is currently planning an investment of 100 million euros in the solar photovoltaic plant “CSF La Atalaya” in the municipality of Villena.
For José Enrique Pardo, Head of Development of X-ELIO in the Community of Valencia and Region of Murcia, “the implementation of the smart beehive, as well as other research projects, allows X-ELIO to combine its commitment to educating young people and caring for the environment in the communities where the company develops its 100% clean and sustainable energy projects”.
For M. Ángeles Corella Castellano, Principal of IES Antonio Navarro Santafé, “this agreement allows us to implement a series of projects devised by our teaching team that represent a very technological and innovative educational opportunity for the students, as well as improving our local environment”.
