Murcia, 5th of January 2023
X-ELIO, a leading global company specialized in the development of renewable and sustainable energy projects, has received the Prior Administrative Authorization from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge for its 386 MW Lorca Solar photovoltaic plant in the Region of Murcia. Previously, on October the 1st, the favourable Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was also published in the Official State Gazette (BOE, Spanish acronym). The obtaining and management of municipal licences is in progress.
Therefore, the General Directorate of Energy Policy and Mines of the aforementioned Ministry ratifies the authorization for a project that has been updated to adapt it to the different requests that have been received from the Government of the Region, the city councils and the neighbourhood associations.
In this regard, it should be noted that X-ELIO plans to undertake, both in the municipality of Lorca and Totana, the development of a series of initiatives to support the local community, under the framework of its Community Plan Program, which seeks to promote the pillars of education, community initiatives, health and environment, promoting local employment, education and research.
Lorca Solar will produce 748,000 MWh of 100% clean energy during its first year of operation, enough to supply the annual demand of approximately 215,000 homes, and will prevent the emission of 148,328 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
The development of this photovoltaic installation could begin at the end of 2023 and the investment -as recently reported- amounts to 270 million euros. It is expected that during the construction and commissioning period more than 300 jobs will be created, prioritizing the employment of workers and SMEs from the region.
The Region of Murcia is the region with the highest level of activity for X-ELIO. It started operating there in 2007 and opened its first local office a year later, in 2008. The company has already commissioned 13 photovoltaic plants and has 7 more in the pipeline.
