Fuente Álamo, 22nd of June 2022. X-ELIO, a world leading company specialized in the development of renewable and sustainable energy projects, the City Council of Fuente Álamo, Murcia, and school principals of CRA Alzabara in Los Cánovas and CEIP Pablo Neruda in Balsapintada, have inaugurated two Ecological Gardens in the schools of this municipality. The action is part of the Community Plan Progam that X-ELIO is carrying out in the municipality of Fuente Álamo, which seeks to promote the pillars of education, community, health and environment and encourage the development of the region in a sustainable and conscious way.
Each School Garden consists of two cultivation beds and a shed for storing tools and utensils. In this way, the aim is to raise students’ awareness of the origin of food and the importance of a healthy and balanced diet.
The opening ceremony was attended by Juana María Martínez, Mayor of Fuente Álamo; José Enrique Pardo Ayuso, Business Development Manager of X-ELIO in the region of Murcia; and the principals of each school, Beatriz Valero, Director of CRA Alzabara and Manolo Villa, Director of CEIP Pablo Neruda of Balsapintada.
The Mayor thanked X-ELIO for sponsoring these two new gardens which “promote environmental awareness and the importance of healthy diet among the younger population of our municipality; when thinking about health and nutrition, it is essential to think about agriculture, how our food was produced, how is the soil in which it grew, how much water was needed to produce it”.
Juana María Martínez, Mayor of Fuente Álamo, Murcia.
“The launch of these two School Gardens is an example of our company’s commitment to society and to the municipalities in which we develop our renewable energy projects. On this occasion, we feel lucky to be able to improve the educational conditions of the youngest students in benefit of environmental care”.
José Enrique Pardo Ayuso, Business Development Manager of X-ELIO in the region of Murcia,
During the event, the prizes for the first edition of the “What grows under the sun?” contest were awarded. Through this drawing competition, pupils from both schools showed what they would like to do under the sun, what they will do with their new school garden and what they want to grow in it. The winners of both primary schools received a book about sustainable cooking and healthy eating together with a commemorative diploma, which was handed over by the various representatives.
And since the main characters of this entertaining day were the young artists, the event concluded with gifts for all those who participated in the decoration, with chalk, of the walls and floors of the new gardens.
