- The 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) covers 100% of the plant’s production
- The 14 MW (10 MWac) Funaki plant, currently under construction, is expected to enter in operation mid-year
29 January 2025. X-ELIO, a global leader in the renewable energy sector, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Amazon for 100% of the energy generated by its Funaki solar plant, located in Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. This 20-year contract guarantees a supply of renewable energy to Amazon. As co-founder of The Climate Pledge, Amazon has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040.
Funaki solar plant, with a capacity of 14 MW (10 MWac), began construction in 2024 and will generate approximately 18,686 MWh per year. By mid-2025, it is expected to become operational, contributing to Japan’s net-zero emissions target by 2050.
Mirko Molinari, X-ELIO’s Chief Commercial Officer, stated: “This agreement exemplifies how growing energy demand in sectors like cloud computing and digitalization can align with the global renewable transition. X-ELIO is proud to support corporates like Amazon in their journey towards decarbonization”.
Luis Perezagua, X-ELIO’s Country Manager in Japan, commented: “Our commitment to Japan’s energy transition is unwavering. With 379 MW built, 14 MW under construction, and a pipeline of 160 MW in solar and 224 MW in batteries, in different stages of development, X-ELIO is positioned to play a pivotal role in the country’s renewable energy future”.
This PPA between X-ELIO and Amazon not only strengthens X-ELIO’s position in the Japanese renewable market but also furthers the shared vision of accelerating Japan’s transition to a low-carbon future.
