- The 14 MW (10 MWac) plant is expected to produce 18,686 MWh 100% renewable energy per year
- Amazon has secured 100% of the Funaki plant’s output through a power purchase agreement
2nd July 2025. X-ELIO, a global leader in the renewable energy sector, has completed the commissioning of its 14 MW (10 MWac) Funaki PV Solar Plant in Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. Following successful performance and reliability testing, the plant is now fully operational and supplying renewable energy to Amazon under a long-term power purchase agreement.
The plant, built on the site of a former golf course, will produce 18,686 MWh of clean energy annually. This expansion of X-ELIO’s solar power capacity in Japan is a testament to the company’s lasting commitment to this market and will contribute to the Japanese government’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. With this project, X-ELIO has a successful portfolio of 393 MW of solar power plants already built in Japan. In addition, the company has a pipeline of 396 MW of PV Solar and BESS projects in different stages of development.
X-ELIO signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Amazon for 100% of the energy produced by the Funaki plant. As a co-founder of The Climate Pledge, Amazon aims to reach net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040. The Funaki plant will play a key role in supporting this ambition.
Luis Perezagua, Country Manager of X-ELIO in Japan, stated: “The launch of the Funaki plant reinforces our long-standing presence in Japan and our role in driving forward its energy transition. Beyond energy generation, we remain committed to delivering value to the communities around our projects”.
X-ELIO’s support for the local community
Aligned with X-ELIO’s Community Plan, a program designed to generate positive social and environmental impact in the areas where it operates, the company has donated disaster relief equipment to local authorities in Ube. The donation includes a power generator, tents, and other essential materials for setting up emergency shelters and sheds, enhancing the region’s preparedness and resilience.
